Find out how to enroll and get started on a lifetime of loving to learn!

Although most students enroll in the Fall, the highly individualized nature of the Ability School Program allows qualified students to enroll at other times during the school year, space permitting. Ability admissions priority is given to those eligible students first completing the full application procedure. Tuition is prorated according to the date of enrollment.

1. Requesting Information

For more information on Ability School you may go to the inquiries page of this site or contact Joan Marrazzo, the Head Mistress, at (201) 871-8808. She will be happy to answer your questions. info@abilityschoolnj.org

2. Touring The School

The best way to learn more about Ability School is to tour the school. This parental visit gives you the first-hand information you need to determine if the school is the right fit for your family. The visits take approximately an hour and we prefer that both parents or guardians attend, when possible. Once you have visited, you’ll be in a good position to decide whether or not you wish to apply. You also have ability to meet virtually. Tours are currently only given after school hours for COVID protocols.

3. Student Visit, Interview and Testing

Preschool- and Kindergarten-age children are invited to spend a morning at Ability School. Children who will be entering the first through third grade spend the day. During the course of the day, the child will be given a short interview to ascertain what he or she knows academically and what his or her interests are. This interview gives us information needed to determine the appropriate class for that child. Children entering fourth grade and up also spend the day and are interviewed but they are given an admissions test to be certain of their grade placement.

All visitors should arrive at 8:15 am so that they can be introduced to the teacher and settled in before school starts at 8:30 am. Preschool and kindergarten children are picked up at 12:15 pm. Children first grade and above may be picked up at 4:00 PM.

Our students enjoy having visitors in their class and are very inviting and friendly. After all, they were once visitors themselves.

4. Parents' Interview

The parent interview (done with both parents or legal guardians) takes place once your child has received an academic acceptance into the school. This interview occurs shortly after your child visits and is done to ensure that we are all in agreement about the educational direction of the child and the educational methods that will be used. It also provides us with additional information to help us better serve you and your child.

5. Notifying Parents of Admissions Decisions

Once an enrollment application has been evaluated, interviews completed, and academic records and tests reviewed, the student and parents are notified as to whether the student has been accepted. Because of the individualized nature of the academic program, students may begin at Ability School at any time during the school year upon receiving their admission acceptance notice.

Summary

Ability School’s admission process is designed to enable the school and the family to become well acquainted. It is important that interested families have as much information as possible about the school and that all your questions are answered before and during the admissions process. The Admissions Director is always happy to speak with you, schedule a tour and assist you through the process.

We look forward to hearing from you!
